I used to love breakfast; a toasted bagel with cream cheese,  an egg sandwich with bacon and ketchup or a bran muffin were my go-to’s when I worked in technology.   I’d stop at a deli at my way to the office and get one of the above in a brown paper bag, along with a cup of coffee with a bunch of milk and sugar in it, and eat it in the car or once I got to my desk.  It was satisfying,  affordable, and convenient.

Of course there were icky side effects that I ignored.   The jitters from the coffee that lasted for a couple of hours.   Feeling like the bagel didn’t get fully digested until 1pm. The constipation that made me grumpy.

I switched to smoothies in 2002 and it was a big help.   Back then, there were not many choices for protein powders and powerful (and affordable) blenders were not a thing.   I can’t remember the recipe I used but I do know I had more energy in the morning, constipation wasn’t as chronic, and I would make them the evening before so I could grab it in the morning on my way out the door.

Balance is key

It took me over twenty years to find the right combination of nutrients for the perfect smoothie — one that tastes great, packs a lot of clean protein, and balances good fats and fiber with super greens.   Adding in Udo’s 3-6-9 oil blend along with Truvani’s plant based protein powder and Ancient Nutrition Super Greens powder are what elevated this recipe to be called ‘perfect’.  It’s rich in protein, good essential fats and fiber which will keep your blood sugar balanced for hours.   And the greens powder ensures you start your day with the equivalent of a few servings of produce so you can have a burger or taco for lunch without feeling guilty.

A high powered blender is best to get a smooth consistency but any blender will do.    If your mornings are packed, an option is to make it the night before, stick the blender jar in the fridge, and then do a quick blend in the morning before pouring it into your To Go cup (preferably with a straw to get every last drop).

Recipe for Flourish Smoothie

Ingredients:

8 ounces filtered water

1 Tablespoon ground flax seed, organic

1 Tablespoon Udo’s Oil 3-6-9 blend

1 Scoop of Ancient Nutrition Organic Super Greens,  Alkalize & Detox

1 Scoop of Truvani plant protein powder (banana cinnamon and vanilla work best)

1 cup of organic frozen blueberries

Directions:

  1. Add water to blender jar
  2. Add flax seed, Udo’s oil, greens powder & protein powder
  3. Top with frozen blueberries
  4. Blend on high speed for at least 90 seconds
  5. Pour into glass
  6. Notes:  Since the smoothie is thick and the ingredients are not cheap, think about using a spatula to get as much of the smoothie out of the blender jar and into your glass.  And a stainless steel straw to get every last drop out of the glass or To Go cup.
